I've got an Etsy store now.

1PaperCut.etsy.com

I'm featuring mini album kits and other little bits from time to time. You know how I love to shop and this has brought out the treasure trover in me!

Anyhoo, hope to have the actual website up soon. (1papercut.com). But for now, I will remain FlimsyFilm - LOL.

Please check out my YouTube videos - see all the doof-meyer things I say! All I can say is, don't make videos at 2:30am...www.youtube.com/1papercutdotcom.

Oh, and remember my post earlier this year about Luminarte? Well, they've just announced that they are part of the Creative Imaginations company. I don't know if it means they are partners or if CI bought them. My guess is the latter. You know, they had the Rain product years ago - I think the original "glimmer mist" - but I don't think they marketed enough, kwim?KarenKhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07078548766512020068noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6550049695539370772.post-59211022650334477692009-07-23T23:50:00.000-07:002009-07-23T23:54:18.314-07:00While Everyone is Going Green, Go Ahead and Go Pink!<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 266px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_Zh_lvplOZ_A/Smlah1w-aPI/AAAAAAAAAKE/eY7-3tSDtNw/s320/Bonas+Pink+Giveaway.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5361916368775964914" />
Check out Bona's blog where she has a great giveaway - too cute! I used SEI's Windsor line - normally, designated as a wedding line, but the patterns and gold running through really reminded me of the fancy brocades and other Japanese fabrics.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 169px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_Zh_lvplOZ_A/SiYmSpAxC6I/AAAAAAAAAH0/5kKKzeHvHic/s320/KarenScraps_Japanese+Ancestry01_6372.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5343000109610240930" />
These are my grandparents (my grandmother on the left and grandfather on the right). Furthest right image is my grandfather at Waseda University where he went to law school.

The flowers to the far left were all hand-cut. I thought I would be good at this. In reality, I got very impatient with it. But I'm glad I did it and then elevated with pop-dots. The photos were all held with gold photo corners - I finally got to use that Canson pack!

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 166px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_Zh_lvplOZ_A/SiYmaAZRg_I/AAAAAAAAAH8/hHo1g0mRumI/s320/KarenScraps_Japanese+Ancestry+02-03_6389.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5343000236146131954" />
From the left: Grandmother's father and siblings. Uncle with my Great-grandmother and my Uncle with his wife.

I got more comfortable with Windsor at the point and trying to assimilate into an Asian look. I was trying to achieve that rich-brocade feeling in many of the art panels I've seen in Japan.

I still need to add the journaling. But the headline reads: "Japanese Ancestry."

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 288px; height: 313px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_Zh_lvplOZ_A/SiYmyyL9LcI/AAAAAAAAAIU/B_2Rps1cVRc/s320/KarenScraps_Japanese+Ancestry_SEI+Windsor+detail_6388.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5343000661828906434" />
Most of the images photographed really flat, but I wanted to emphasize the gold foiling running through here. SEI Windsor is so unusual, but beautiful! Many of the pages have flocking which is hard to see as well. :(

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 211px; height: 320px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_Zh_lvplOZ_A/SiYmiYspWMI/AAAAAAAAAIE/Se6IHixP1fg/s320/KarenScraps_Japanese+Ancestry_Embossed+Chip+detail_6387.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5343000380108789954" />

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 263px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_Zh_lvplOZ_A/SiYmp6O2wwI/AAAAAAAAAIM/t3u0NM_n0nQ/s320/KarenScraps_Japanese+Ancestry_Embossed+Chip+detail2_6387.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5343000509369729794" />
These letters are from black mat board. Seemed rather flat so I stamped a character-text background stamp with VersaMark and clear embossed. The photo doesn't really show it clearly. Can you tell it's not Japanese? LOL. It's Chinese - I think from a newspaper article!

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 214px; height: 320px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_Zh_lvplOZ_A/SiYm9uNq8qI/AAAAAAAAAIc/rYRYm9LWzJA/s320/KarenScraps_Japanese+Ancestry+02-03+flower+detail_6384.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5343000849740919458" />
Last, I used these cool sparkly, velvety flowers from Maya Road; layered on creme Prima flowers and centered with an antiqued, square rhinestone brad.KarenKhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07078548766512020068noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6550049695539370772.post-85452369928023035042009-04-26T23:20:00.000-07:002009-07-24T00:15:49.862-07:00Trick or Treat! Halloween Mini AlbumOk, I am finally posting the Halloween mini book/mini album I did last year. It's a 6x6 mini, with black mat board pages.

Cover
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 316px; height: 288px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_Zh_lvplOZ_A/SiYnuT4Ba7I/AAAAAAAAAIk/9h2PU1p_Tnc/s320/TTS_Halloween08+MB_p01_4913.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5343001684484385714" />
I used Tim Holtz' trinket pin and Philosophy tag along with a boatload of ribbon and a couple of cute Pumpkin bells.

Back Cover
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 271px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_Zh_lvplOZ_A/SiYn1unL7CI/AAAAAAAAAIs/pDdYJpeTQ0U/s320/TTS_Halloween08+MB_p18_4932.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5343001811920612386" />
Recognize the Fiskars' Threading Water punch? I love it.

Inside Pages
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 197px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_Zh_lvplOZ_A/SiYn9dhz8mI/AAAAAAAAAI0/ZHKdsSQy1aI/s320/TTS_Halloween08+MB_p02-3_4938.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5343001944773620322" />
Each pocket holds 3 tags with photos on both sides. The last tag on the right side has several bats from the Martha Stewart punch.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 189px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_Zh_lvplOZ_A/SiYoJ2mf-xI/AAAAAAAAAI8/BA60wSbZBsw/s320/TTS_Halloween08+MB_p04-5_4944.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5343002157662599954" />
Last pocket page. Used American Crafts vinyl thickers on both for titles. It's kinda hard to see the "treat" on the right page. They didn't stick too well so I had to reglue. I like the chipboard and Puffy alphas from AC a lot better than the vinyl.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 181px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_Zh_lvplOZ_A/SiYoSTkilQI/AAAAAAAAAJE/t1ZVGRLGWqM/s320/TTS_Halloween08+MB_p06-7_4946.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5343002302877963522" />
This page is kinda busy. I designed and created this book before I gathered the photos. I'm not going to retrofit design any more. It really shows it on this spread.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 185px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_Zh_lvplOZ_A/SiYob832s9I/AAAAAAAAAJM/NfvIKu8LNaI/s320/TTS_Halloween08+MB_p08-9_4948.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5343002468583650258" />
It's a bit hard to see, but I used the MM foiling paper here. I love that paper. I don't know why it isn't more popular. So versatile. I also used the Little Yellow Bicycle felt borders stickers. I also had to add some adhesive to these, they just kept lifting up. I used it here to hide a beat-up plastic lawn chair at the pumpkin patch.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 190px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_Zh_lvplOZ_A/SiYolZIrXPI/AAAAAAAAAJU/WveG27vuiJQ/s320/TTS_Halloween08+MB_p10-11_4951.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5343002630789225714" />
Added the LYB epoxy "Spooky" sticker. So cool. The LYB pumpkin stickers are so cute, too!

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 179px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_Zh_lvplOZ_A/SiYo54e0W3I/AAAAAAAAAJs/3kM8zYCLoVA/s320/TTS_Halloween08+MB_p12-13_4954.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5343002982800972658" />
The centers of the black chipboard flowers are the Doodlebug Jewels in jet. Those are some of my favorite bling. Reminds me of black Tahitian pearls!!

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 185px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_Zh_lvplOZ_A/SiYpFTRdGwI/AAAAAAAAAJ0/vasIbcplrvI/s320/TTS_Halloween08+MB_p14-15_4956.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5343003178971241218" />
I love the simplicity of this spread. The Bo Bunny paper had this wavy text so I tore it following the wave.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 186px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_Zh_lvplOZ_A/SiYpNYHqjDI/AAAAAAAAAJ8/ugjblpSHTCs/s320/TTS_Halloween08+MB_p16-17_4957.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5343003317711309874" />
This last page, I used the MM's foiling again and the Glitter Check. Little did I know that they are based out of Fresno! It's one thing when a California company goes out of business, but more importantly, it is privately-owned by the woman who "invented" this product.

You are probably more familiar with their product line, especially the twinkling H2Os. I've been a painter for a long time, including some watercolor. These are in pots and infused with mica. These are super fun, especially for cards, tags, journaling and scrapbooking, of course.

Once word got out of their impending closure, they were inundated with orders. Rather than just say, "Sorry!" they have been working night and day to fulfill the orders. It's especially difficult because most of the staff was gone by then and they were just working to close the warehouse.

Anyhoo, I placed a large order and they've just sent notice that they will stop taking orders soon. They announced the closure in February (I think) and were planning to be closed by March. So here it is almost May!

I hope they manage a comeback, but in the meantime, place your orders. You may not see this product again. Here's the link.KarenKhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07078548766512020068noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6550049695539370772.post-81256198370081619012009-04-15T19:36:00.000-07:002009-04-15T19:45:02.690-07:00Check out Susan Boyle!I'm sure by now you've heard of Susan Boyle - absolutely extraordinary performance on "Britain's Got Talent." I'm a MEME Girl (no, not a Mean Girl).

I joined in on this great MEME that my YouTube/Blogger friend Michelle at Everyday Me posted. Here's the lowdown of how it works:

The first 5 people who respond to this post will get something special from me... it could be anything, it will be my choice, but especially for you. But along with everything fun there are some restrictions & limitations...

• What I give you will be just for you.
• I make no guarantees that you will like it...but I hope you do!
• You will receive it before the end of the year...or sooner.
• You will have no idea what it will be, or when you will receive it.

The BIG catch is you have to repost this MEME and put together something to be sent out as 5 surprises of your own. The photo carousel spinner, mini-book and another semi-transparent mini book.

We had an awesome group and GT did a fantastic job of making this more like a retreat. We had 2 breakfasts, 2 lunches and 2 dinners (Morton's Steak on the last night, no less). Our group was great! There was lots of sharing and encouraging and I love LOVE those kinds of environments to create in.

Autumn was kranking out the first album as a 43 Things album. It's so much fun reading other people's blogs, it's a different animal to keep up your own. Doh!

Catching up:

Went to Red Hawk casino this weekend. Had a fabulous Prime Rib dinner. Only wished my potato was bigger and the meat smaller - spoken like a true non-carnivore! LOL! But the creamed horseradish and au jus were fantastic. I really wanted the Fresh Strawberry shortcake, but (dang it) got too full. I didn't take a picture. I was admonished roundly the last time I took a picture at a casino.

Red Hawk is brand new and really a great design. Great covered parking, eateries (not just a food court), and kid's area. I always cringe when I see strollers and kids in and around the slots and tables. :(

Took my mom to an ice skating show. She is a die-hard fan, not one of those fickle-fans who drift away once all the controversy is done and over with. It was a good show, lots of good music, great costumes, choreography and lighting. Maybe it was due to the economy, but it was only about 1/3 full. Michael Weiss, Ilia Kulik and Shen and Zhao were truly impressive. No matter how big or small the town or crowd, they give 110%.

Now, only a handful of days earlier, we took our DS to the Monster Jam. I am continually amazed at how arenas can take a basketball court, turn it into a dirt-filled, smashed car/bus berm-laded track, and then a lovely, pristine-white ice rink! I'll post some photos soon. But I have to say, I LOVE it! I was secretly thinking that I would. Love the speed and action and the graphics on the trucks! LOL. Lots of fun and so glad we brought ear plugs.

Just received the Christine Middlecamp kits - packed full of a ton of creative goodness. I can't wait to experiment with her layering style. Check out her blog! She has pictures of a new Staz-On product for transparencies. I LOVE working with transparencies and Tim Holtz' alcohol inks - every since I took classes from him at (the now closed) My Daughter's Wish store. I'm ordering from Treasures To Scrap nowadays - where it's 35% off everyday. Tracy also ships super-fast.

I'll post some photos later. And remember, Make Stuff Everyday!!KarenKhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07078548766512020068noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6550049695539370772.post-84705711942671328152008-09-02T22:35:00.000-07:002008-09-02T22:43:24.359-07:00Where has the summer gone?Ok, give me the big L for being such a lame blogger. I've been so busy this summer and yet, can't really think of what I've done. CKU Provo comes to mind as a highlight, but my mom and I have both had some health issues.

Part of me is still waiting for summer to start and the work-side of me is already into the holidays (publishing and advertising). Anyhoo, had some time to slow down and catch some simple fun outtings. I'll have to post soon about the CKU happenings.

However, I wanted to post this simple truth that my son said that I often repeat to myself several times a week (since I am naturally somewhat of a cynic and have a circling-the-drain perspective a lot). He's 3-1/2 years ago. I asked him if he was happy. He said, "Yes!" I asked him why and expected an answer like he had fun playing with his friends, or liked his toys or something along that line. But he looked at me quizzically and said, "Because I WANT to."

Choose happiness. It's always there, you just need to let it in.KarenKhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07078548766512020068noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6550049695539370772.post-61173835265523270052008-05-20T00:01:00.000-07:002008-05-20T00:10:23.949-07:00My Twins - Separated at birth??Hmm.. who would have thought that I would be a cross between Glenn Close and Ang Lee! Hayden Panettiere? White cardstock base with patterned paper cut into quads. Coordinated paper circle-scallop punched, edges inked. Another coordinated PP, circle punched, couple different layers of stamping, edges inked. Inside had a coordinated side strip border and punched butterflies flapping around inside-giving the inside some dimension.

Also, included a photo puzzle for each attendee-packaged in clear cello. Heard some really nice comments from parents about these since they were toddlers and just starting to be exposed to puzzles. Had a lot of fun doing these.

KarenKhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07078548766512020068noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6550049695539370772.post-62156848348973366572008-03-22T23:38:00.000-07:002008-12-09T19:35:13.702-08:00Cut, Take 8Sheesh! How many paper trimmers does a person need? I hope it's not 9 since I just purchased #8. It's the X-acto Laser Trimmer.

How many times have I cut something off that I needed, or trimmed it a hair off, then when re-trimming, it became jaggedy? Or trimmed it whanky?

This has a red laser light that you hand-calibrate, then it shows you the trim line! Oh, when the lighting it dim, this will be a life saver!

I thought the Create-A-Cut would be the last trimmer I would ever need. But this beauty...ah, can't wait for it to come in!KarenKhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07078548766512020068noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6550049695539370772.post-42390082713173740512008-03-15T23:53:00.000-07:002008-12-09T19:35:14.094-08:00MoreI forgot to include these cute notepads and decorated tape from Mike's. Who would have thought Scotch tape could be so cool? Still looking for that damask tape, though.

I also spent a lot of time making Thank You cards for the Tman's birthday. How much time would you spend on handmade cards for 3-year-olds? Is it OK to have non-handmade cards if you're into the paperarts?! And, worst yet, what if they found out! You give out store-bought cards and then someone finds out your a paper artist/craftsy type. Maybe this has more dire implications than if you didn't give a card at all!

KarenKhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07078548766512020068noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6550049695539370772.post-49324303357771628762008-03-03T22:37:00.000-08:002008-12-09T19:35:14.553-08:00Black & White and read all over.....Oh my. Now if I wasn't a 12x12 girl, I could definitely see these as album-potential.

Right now, I'm just going to use them as organizers. Got the idea from Simplify101--although I did order the wonderful russell+hazel binders--love those!

I digress.

Here is the surprise. You open them and it's beautiful on the inside, too!

Sorry, the photography is lacking. I don't get those beautiful shots with natural lighting when I'm usually doing this at midnight or so... sigh...

But wait, there's more. Of course, I got the ridiculously overpriced Post-Its and tags. I'm thinking of using these for journaling... I dunno, I just like looking at them right now!

I think these would go great with Teresa Collins' new line! Check out this video from CHA in Anaheim.

Leave me a comment if you've found anything great lately, too! I'm still looking for that Damask tape that was all the rage a few months ago! Take care and happy Tuesday!

KarenKhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07078548766512020068noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6550049695539370772.post-67391439871946202702008-02-24T01:54:00.000-08:002008-02-24T02:20:07.454-08:00Those office supplies...not just for paper craftsSo Kyle, the oneredpaperclip guy, came by yesterday and gave a great talk based on his book. He is self-deprecating, as well as dry and witty, which made him a hit with me right away. You can see him on this video. Unfortunately, he didn't wear his Cintas shirt. I liked that he was thinking differently and that it wasn't about the trade or sell. It was about the people he'd meet, the adventure he was on and the lives he might change. It also made me think about bartering since he got his start on this wacky ride from Craigslist. If you're interested in bartering, here is the associated trading site.KarenKhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07078548766512020068noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6550049695539370772.post-41976777245859802992008-02-12T00:09:00.000-08:002008-03-03T23:34:46.194-08:00First Fling at Flimsy FilmWhat was that called in English Lit? Alliteration? You know, where you repeat the first consonant over and over. I guess they thought that was pretty much 'the bomb' back then. Oil lamps and alliteration!KarenKhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07078548766512020068noreply@blogger.com0
